GASTRIC SLEEVE

It is a surgery that reduces the size of the stomach and makes a narrow tube. The new stomach it is much smaller and produces less of the hormone (ghrelin) that causes hunger, helping you feel satisfied with less food.

Gastric sleeve is safer than gastric bypass because the intestines are not reorganized, and there is less chance of malnutrition, with better control than the lap bands. This procedure safer than bands, since no extraneous materials are used.

The sleeve gastrectomy has a good success rate, and the patient loses an average of 33 percent of their excess weight in the first year. For a person who is 120 pounds overweight, this would mean losing about 40 pounds in the first year.

GASTRIC PLICATION

Reduce stomach size without removing sections of the stomach or without implant devices. This surgery decreases the volume by inward folding it and the suture of the folds, reducing stomach volume and thus limiting food intake.

This is a new surgical technique for weight loss, this procedure is revolutionizing bariatric surgery and is becoming a very attractive surgery for patients because there is no cutting of the stomach or bowel, so it is a safer procedure, no staples or other prosthetic material are used, thus is a cheaper surgery.

It's a reversible surgery, being not mutilating.

GASTRIC BAYPASS

Helps you lose weight by reducing the amount of food you can eat and reduce the number of calories and nutrients absorbed from the food you eat.

To perform gastric bypass surgery, a bariatric surgeon creates a small stomach pouch by dividing the stomach and connects it to the small intestine. This helps you lose weight in two ways:

  • The smaller stomach can have less food than before surgery. This makes you feel full after eating a very small amount of food or liquid. Over time, the bag can stretch, allowing you to eat more food.
  • The body absorbs less calories because the food does not pass most of the stomach and the upper small intestine. This new agreement seems to decrease appetite and change the way food is broken down by changing the release of various hormones.

Gastric bypass can be performed as an open surgery (through an incision in the abdomen) or laparoscopy, which uses smaller incisions and smaller instruments. Both open and laparoscopic techniques have risks and benefits.

Gastric bypass surgery has a high success rate, and people lose an average of 50 to 70 percent of their excess weight in the first year.

GASTRIC BAND

It is a surgery that uses an adjustable band around the stomach opening. This reduces the amount of food that can be eaten at once.

It is performed through small incisions with a laparoscope. The band can be adjusted after surgery, allowing you to eat more or less food. Adjustments in the size and stiffness of the band are made by using a needle to add or remove fluid from a port (a small container under the skin that is connected to the band). Adding fluid to the band makes it more strict, limiting the amount of food you can eat and can help you lose more weight. However, weight loss with gastric banding depends on their ability to follow the program closely.
